There's more grain in these than my 1600asa DD-X scans, but it should be pointed out that my scanning and post-processing can also result in grain being more pronounced sometimes. 1. If you're just starting out I'd stick to the rated ISO - pushing/pulling films is to me a slightly more advanced technique. I prefer Ilford 

I often push HP5 to 1600 and 3200 in Ilford LC29 developer, and usually get pretty good results. However, I am not making prints-- just scanning the negatives. I don't know how well these would print in the old-fashioned way. For pushing to 1600, I use dilution 1:19 for 14 minutes, 20C. For 3200, dilution 1:9 for 11.5 - 12.5 minutes.
